Hip Hop History: Nas Released ‘I Am…’ On April 6, 1999

Today In Hip Hop History:

Nas released his third album, ‘I Am…’ on April 6, 1999.

The project was originally meant as a double album titled ‘I Am…The Autobiography’, but after the original sessions were bootlegged, most songs were cut. ‘I Am…’ was the first major release album to be widely leaked using MP3s. Some of the leaked songs were later released on ‘The Lost Tapes’ compilation in 2002.

The album two singles from ‘I Am…’ were “Hate Me Now” and “Nas Is Like”.

“Hate Me Now” featured Puff Daddy, and was produced by D-Moet, Pretty Boy and The Trackmasters.
