Today In Hip Hop History:

Mos Def released his debut album ‘Black On Both Sides’ on October 12th, 1999.

Before the release, Mos Def had collaborated with rapper Talib Kweli for the duo’s studio album, ‘Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star’.

‘Black On Both Sides’ emphasized live instrumentation and socially conscious lyrics.

The album included the singles “Ms. Fat Booty / Mathematics” and “Umi Says”.
